Corrosion Risk Assessment of Aging Structures and Corrosion Mitigation
Failure of aging energy pipelines and utility structures caused by corrosion creates a significant risk to operators, public safety of surrounding populated communities, infrastructure, and environmental damages. Our expertise is to detect corrosion failures in order to rank the structures in relation to their corrosion risks and identify options to, remove, mitigate or manage the risks. Several important factors often associated with corrosion of aging structures are deficiencies in corrosion control, improper coatings and not considering water/soil corrosivity. In general, soil corrosivity, cathodic protection/coating, stray current, and copper grounding should be considered in corrosion mitigation and design of piping components to prevent catastrophic failures.
